The students should work there autonomous with the support of their teachers
and the accompaniment of the senior citizens.
The autonomous work
shall be a preparation for studies at an University, the interworking with
teachers and "grandparents" will exercise team working.
So in the year 2001 4 students - 3 young ladies, 1 young gent dwelled on the subject:
Giengen-Sachsenhausen, a village of the Ostalb is changing
The anniversary-book to the 850-Year-Celebrations was available.
5550 BC there was a settlement in the south of
Sachsenhausen.
1143 AD it was mentioned in a
document in connection with the equipment of the monastery of Anhausen.
Sachsenhausen, primarily with a peasant population was incorporated in 1972 to the bigger city Giengen.
In 1946 315 inhabitants lived in Sachsenhausen. This was the highest number of inhabitants to be achieved.
Details you can read from the attached chronological table (Zeittafel).
At the beginning life predominately was peasantry in Sachsenhausen. Today (2002)
there are 6 families which earn their money exclusively on their farms. 4 families
have some additional income.
Nevertheless, Sachsenhausen succeeded to keep the rustic character, because
there didn´t live only commuters.
The 4 students did not only work as hobby-historians and studied the change
in the last 50 - 60 years, they also recorded the results with multimedia technology
There were elaborated 4 topics:
The roll of the peasant women -Ines Arndt
Local societies - Sabine Mühlbacher
Consolation of farmland - Thomas Weischedel
Agriculture - Elisa Pflug
Each student elaborates the topic of his own. Afterwards they discussed it
in the plenum (students, teachers and seniors).
Pictures and digitized movies from the fifties and sixties were added to the
text.
The students produced a multimedia CD. The modern technology united the past
and the present.
During the work they had the opportunity to have a look to the original documents of the city-archive.
Furthermore interviews and meetings with groups from Sachsenhausen took place.
The students used the Word-Wide-Web (www) to look for literature, ordering books
and to communicate with e-mail.
The local press (Heidenheimer Zeitung) observe the work with interest and published 3 elaborate reports (2/28/01, 07/24/01, 01/24/02) with pictures.
With a high participation ot the local, the mayor of Giengen, Clemens Stahl, and members of the town council, the CD was represented and handed over.
More about this you can find on the home-page of the Margarethe-Steiff-High-School

With this project the students stroke out in a new direction, with the aim to build a reference book not only for students and teachers but also for other interested persons.
The produced CD-ROM is not available in commerce, but you can find it in the city-archive of Giengen.
We, the senior citizens from the Seniorenakademie Heidenheim enjoyed above all the work between the different generations.
