- Heidenheim's very own astronaut, Dr. Gerhard Thiele, visits his birthplace on May 23rd.
A reception takes place in the Heidenheim City Hall followed by signing of the Golden Book and so forth ...
On that occasion a sealed capsule is stored in the gonom of the sundial, containing documents for posterity.
- Construction begins on September 11th, when the groundbreaking works are carried out on the site.
- The giant sundial is handed over to the city of Heidenheim on December 21st, the day of the winter solstice.
